Master of Education (Honors)


Master of Education (Honors) is designed on part-time basis to allow those who are working and are interested to continue studies in the field of education. The main goals of the programme are to equip individuals involved with the necessary knowledge, through the values of Islam, communication and technical expertise in the education world.

The programmes will be conducted with an Islamic worldview, hence, an Islamic perspective to education will be stressed in every course. The classes will be conducted only on the weekends.


The programme objectives are:

  • To produce professionally trained graduate teachers in these areas who uphold the Islamiс philosophy of education and are committed to serve the country and ummah
  • To develop internet usage and interaction skills effectively
  • To provide the students a ‘platform’ interface and exchange views openly
  • To enable educators to achieve goals without leaving the career


  • A Bachelor Degree with Honors (min 120 credit hours) in relevant areas from the International Islamic University Malaysia or an equivalent degree from a recognized university; and has obtained a Diploma in Education in relevant area from IIUM or equivalent qualifications from a recognized institution.

  • English and/or Arabic language proficiency where relevant; TOEFL score of 550 / IELTS of band 6.0, or a score of 6.0 on the IIUM administered English Placement Test (EPT; a score of 7.0 on the IIUM administered Arabic Placement Test(APT)).

  • Obtained equivalent qualifications in relevant areas acceptable to the Institute but does not have a Diploma in Education or an equivalent level of training in Education is required to complete an additional 9 credit hours of Diploma level Foundation Courses. These courses are regarded as Special Requirement Courses.

  • Preference will be given to candidates who have had at least two (2) years experience as full time teachers in the relevant subject areas in school or institutions of similar status.

  • Special consideration will be given to candidates who have excellent academic qualifications or relevant experiences.
